Clannad ~After Story~
Hello there~ It’s that time of the year again… what, Christmas? No, no… Release time!
Clannad ~After Story~
Torrent: Nyaa
Torrent (newer and more likely to be seeded): BakaBT
Video: H264 720 x 480, anamorphic 16:9, R2J source
Audio: Japanese only, stereo AAC -q 8.0 (~260 kbps), source: 2.0 LPCM
Subtitle: English (ASS), taken from Eclipse’s release, slightly retimed (styling and fonts are the same as Eclipse’s)
Warning: this release uses ordered chapters – makes sure you are (mentally) prepared for that
Eh, this encode has been sitting on my HDD for some months now, I just couldn’t get myself to watch (I was never in the mood to watch it – and I knew that the last episodes were quite emotional). But Christmas is upon us and I thought that this would make a nice present for you guys :3 (I hope you know what would make a good present for me…).
As for the release itself – standard stuff, R2J source, subs by SS-Eclipse – they were quite easy to work with since they were basically scene timed (unlike the shitty R1 subs for Tylor, ugh, that had like a jillion sync points throughout an episode). The problem was the video – the Clannad DVDs are known for being haloed to hell and back (though, Clannad AS ones are better in that matter) – after some experimenting I opted for keeping the haloed look (I actually like it) – dehaloing meant loss of detailed backgrounds (which I love in the Clannad DVDs), some dark/grainy scenes started looking like a splotch etc. If you don’t like it, don’t download, make your own encode or tune the video with ffpmeg or avs scripts :P
As for the next release – I have absolutely no idea, I haven’t encoded anything in a long time. Whatever I do however, I would need some help with subs, because, frankly, that’s the part of this whole business that puts my off the most – retiming, adding sings, etc… ugh..
Here’s a list of projects I have R2J DVDs for and would like to do in the future:
- Initial D Fourth Stage – great anime (IMHO), there’s no decent DVD release available and boy does it deserve one – the DVD are pretty nice, they have lots of bitrate (which is great because the are lots of dark scenes in this series), they have a friggin awesome 5.1 track (that alone warrants a proper DVD version :P). One more thing: this encode is perfect to show off the possibilites of VFR MKV – since the races are in 29.97, while the everyday stuff is 23,976 which means that the old encodes are choppy/faulty in the races part.
Needed staff member:subs provider/ripper – the only releases of this series are hardsubbed so one would have to employ SubRip or sth similar to get the subs – something I’m not willing to do :DAs Blanchimont pointed out, there’s a recent soft-subbed release by Central-Anime, will have to look into this… - Patlabor – I actually haven’t seen this series.. it’s just that I once downloaded the TV series and both OVAs and now they take up over 110GB on my HDD and would like to get rid of them :D
Needed staff member: someone to retime the subs and add signs, etc. - Testuwan Birdy Decode – since I did the original OVA, it would be fitting to do the TV series to, ne? The DVDs are really nice and definitely an improvement over the TV rips.
Needed staff member: someone to retime the subs and add signs, etc. But most importantly, a translator checker – because, frankly, the available fansubs are not the best, and I’m not that confident of my Japanese skills to try to fix them myself. - Arjuna – a series I really like, for many reasons (Yoko Kanno’s soundtrack, great story, animation, seiyuus, eh..). The DVDs are so-so, video-wise, but still an improvement over the available releases. The DVDs do however have a 5.1 track so that’s cool :3
Needed staff member:signs, signs, signs (and retiming subs) – this series has many signs, etc which would probably benefit from some sort of typesetting. - Tenchi OVAs – the Pioneer DVDs look friggin awesome and they have a 5.1 DTS track! Wooohoo.
Needed staff member: nothing fancy, just subs :3 - Battle Programmer Shirase – I’m interested in this series for two reasons – one being the gorgeous DVDs (the TV rips look awful in comparison), the other is the word “programmer” in the title – I just wish they would take the topic more seriously, but I’m thankful for any exposure of us programmers ;)
Needed staff member: same thing as with Birdy – the subs for this one are even worse though. So a translator would be even better :D - Getsumen to Heiki Mina – the series from which this group’s name originated – need I say more?
Needed staff member: nothing fancy, subs retiming, etc, the first episode requires SubRip since it’s hardsubbed, but the other episodes are softsubbed. - Some more… I can’t remember right now, I’ll maybe update this list when I’ll find my external HDD with my older ISOs.
If you are interested in doing any of the series above (or know someone who does), leave a comment or drop a mail @ rabbit.force @ [that mail from Google].com
igro,
eating carrots and busy doing nothing since Haruhi knows when
yayy well done! thanks
How dare you not visit IRC!
Won’t you please make Full Moon wo Sagashite? This series needs a re-encode quite badly.
Yep, that’s true. And I actually wanted to do a DVD of it some time ago… but:
1) I couldn’t find any DVDISOs on Share and/or PD
2) the fansubs are hardsubbed and I’m not going to rip subs for 50+ episodes :/
KAA released an episode or two long time ago and they looked great and makes one want more… but without the DVDs and subs I can’t do much :/
That’s too bad. The KAA release was really good but it is stalled since a long, long time (only 6 eps).
Great work like always. Too bad that you didnt put it on the bots on IRC like i asked you.
Not sure why they dont accept it on boxtorrent but it doesnt matter where i get it from anyway.
AS for the series listed, Arjuna is the most interesting. I can do nothing to help you, so good luck man.
why do people like to cut out the OP and ED of reencoded higher resolution batch releases?
do people hate it that much?
@kyuuji. The separate OP and ED for this release have sizes of around 100MB and 50MB, respectively. Means 150MB together. If the OP and EDs were a solid part of the episode the size of the total batch would be around 3.7 GB bigger since the 150 MB would be added to the size of each episode. With ordered chapters separate files for OP and EDs can be made and the filesize of the batch isn’t that large.
@igro. If you happen to have DVDs of Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou I’d like you to consider doing that. :)
@igro: Since AQS-TWH-Sprocket dropped their DVD release I have been looking for a replacement. Finally… Thanks!
kyuuji: like keijo said, this release (like some many others, not only mine) uses ordered chapters, install Haali Media Splitter and you should be fine (unless you’re on Linux like me :3).
keijo: sorry, don’t have those, I heard many good things about (Zoku) Natsume Yuujinchou, but the available releases seem rather high in quality and so I’d rather do something that doesn’t have a proper encode :)
Great that you’ve released Clannad After Story.
I have a question though: are the signs also translated (if any)? Because that was the biggest flaw of the original Clannad by [BR-RAWS]: the signs were almost never translated, probably because they were hard-subbed by Eclipse.
Yeah, most of the signs are translated, I’ve only left out a few that were completely irrelevant to the story and hard to typeset :)
@igro: Too bad that the ASS files for the OP/ED contain no subs…
thank you. nice release
There IS a softsubbed version of Initial D 4th Stage, by Central-Anime.
Not sure if they’re comparable to Live-eviL who did the hardsubbed release, but I wouldn’t call them too bad either…
They don’t have it on their tracker though ever since the franchise was acquired by Funi, so if you have trouble getting the files, I can extract the subs from the files I have and send them.
Wow, somehow I missed that release by Central-Anime (it’s a fairly new one and last time I looked at this project it must have not been available yet). Great catch, Blanchimont!
I’ll have to check the quality of those rips – maybe there’s no need for me to make an encode after all.
I hate ordered :-/
And why is that, MKS? If you’re on Linux, then I can kinda understand…
But on Windows they are pretty straithforward and don’t require any setup beside the normal/recommended one – Haali Media Splitter + the needed codecs. With ordered chapters, you/I/we save space *and* get much higher quality OP/ED (seriously, take a look at the video/audio bitrate on the OP – no way I would put that much bitrate in it if this was a normal release).
Whoa, great to see that you might be doing Initial D Fourth Stage in DVD quality. It definitely deserves it, I’d say. And my addiction for Initial D is really high right now. xD
hey igro, here’s a link regarding Fullmoon wo Sagashite R2J DVDs (in hope you will do this series, torrent can be found in the description):

/me hugs chiya-chan :3
I can’t believe I missed that torrent! Starting downloading ASAP :) H-Here’s a carrot… no, two even!
OMG!!!! You really will do Full Moon wo Sagashite??
/me hugs igro back :3
I’m not promising anything ;) I was, however, thinking about doing FMwS for a long time now (because I wanted to watch it, and the easiest way to do that is by subbing it myself :P). The first DVD is almost done – from what I’ve seen from KAA’s few released episodes, the source shouldn’t pose too much of a problem… The only problem are the subs – a.f.k. of course used hardsubs. Anyone wants to volunteer to subrip them? :3
So igro, how’s it going with FMwS? I hope the subs aren’t giving you much problems (sry that I cannot help you in this aspect as I am a total amateur :(
Anyway, I wish you are successful with this :3
I’m sorry….could we get a seed, please?
The torrent at BakaBT has more than enough seeds – the one at Nyaa on the other hand should just die already :P
@chiya-chan: I’ve downloaded all the ISOs… and that’s about it, for now :/ I don’t have time to OCR the subs atm and it doesn’t seem like I’ll have more free time any time soon (graduating from uni, etc). If someone were volunteer to OCR/provide the subs…
Every one knows that modern life seems to be high priced, but some people need money for various stuff and not every person earns big sums money. Hence to receive good business loans and secured loan will be a proper way out.
All people deserve good life time and business loans or just car loan can make it much better. Because freedom bases on money state.
